The Ghana Badminton team won a silver and a bronze to place second out of the 19 countries that participated in the just ended Benin International Badminton championship.

Emmanuel Yaw Donkor and Stella Amasah came second in the mixed doubles whiles Stella Bentum and Jennifer Abitty won bronze for making it to the semi-finals.

The Nigerian team swept almost all the gold medals to place first in the tournament.

Jordans Bahaedeen Ahmad and Nser Mansour could not stop Nigeria’s Enjorh Abah and Ibrahim Adamu in the men’s doubles as they beat them 2-1 in the finals.

Indian’s Sahil Sipain was the only tough opponent for the Nigerians, defeating Bello Habeeb by two straight set to win gold in the men’s category.

Although Ghana failed to improve on the seven medals they won in Ivory Coast, Evans Yeboah, President of the Ghana Badminton Association said the young players have gathered experience from the two tournaments.

“We did really well comparatively in terms of performance than in Ivory Coast, it gives us hope that things will build up in a couple of months since we’ve gathered a lot of experiences,” he said.

The team arrived in Ghana on Monday after participating in the two international championships.
