GOC CONFIRMS TEAM GHANA'S PARTICIPATION IN THE 2026 YOUTH OLYMPIC GAMES IN DAKAR
ACCRA — With exactly 50 days to go before history unfolds on African soil, the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) has officially confirmed that Team Ghana will field a formidable contingent of rising young stars at the 2026 Youth Olympic Games in Dakar, Senegal.
Running under the inspiring official motto, “Africa Welcomes, Dakar Inspires,” the upcoming Games mark a monumental watershed moment in Olympic history as the very first Olympic-branded sports event ever hosted on the African continent. For Ghana, it represents the continuation of a proud unbroken legacy, having competed in every single edition of the Youth Olympic Games since their inception in Singapore (2010), followed by Nanjing (2014) and Buenos Aires (2018).
This year, Team Ghana will stamp its presence across eight (8) fiercely contested sporting disciplines: Athletics, Badminton, Boxing, Beach Volleyball, Judo, Taekwondo, Table Tennis, and Swimming. Thirteen (13) elite athletes aged 14 to 16 have successfully run the gauntlet of rigorous, established International Federation (IF) qualification pathways in place since 2024, backed by meticulous technical assessments from their respective national sports federations.
To pilot this crucial national assignment, the GOC has named seasoned sports administrator Mr. Evans Yeboah as the Chef de Mission for the Dakar 2026 delegation. Mr. Yeboah, who serves as the President of Ghana Badminton, brings a wealth of elite multi-sport leadership to the role. His extensive resume includes steering and supporting Team Ghana delegations at towering international stages, including the 2010, 2018, and 2022 Commonwealth Games, as well as the 2018 Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires.
Behind the scenes, administrative machinery is operating at full throttle. The GOC, working in close collaboration with the Ministry of Youth and Recreation, national federations, and corporate partners, is finalizing pre-games training regimes, logistical protocols, and official send-off arrangements in Accra ahead of the team's departure.
As the countdown ticks down to 50 days, sporting authorities are issuing a resounding clarion call to corporate Ghana and sports enthusiasts nationwide to throw their weight behind Team Ghana.
The stage is set for a new generation of Ghanaian talents to fly the national flag high, break boundaries, and write their names into the history books.
