Rio 2016 Qualification boost for Ghana

Black Queens_1It was a good weekend for Ghana’s Olympic Teams who boosted their qualification chances for Rio 2016 Olympic Games in two separate qualification matches.

The national women’s football team, the Black Queens were held to a 1:1 drawn game by Egypt in Cairo while the men’s U-23 team, the Black Meteors piped Congo-Brazzaville 1:0 at the Accra Sports stadium.

Enoch Ebow Andoh scored with a minute to half time to give Ghana a slender advantage ahead of the second leg while Portia Boakye scored a crucial goal in Cairo for the Queens.

The Meteors were the first African football team to win a medal at the Olympics after clinching third place in the Barcelona 1992 Games. The Queens are yet to qualify for the women’s football tournament in the Olympic Games.

The two teams are expected in action again in two weeks.
