Mahadi re-elected as Ghana Fencing Association President

Mohammed MahadiMohammed Mahadi was last Saturday re-elected unopposed to serve another four years as the President of the Ghana Fencing Association (GFA), at the GFA’s elective congress held at the Azumah Nelson Sports Complex in Accra.

Also elected was Mr. Muftawu Rashid who polled 10 votes to defeat Issifu Segda to become the new vice president of the GFA.

Hassanatu Zakariah garnered six votes to beat Abu Safyan Alhassan who polled three votes to become the new General Secretary. Badamisi Ibn Mohammed and Alhassan Samba were elected unopposed as Treasurer and Athletes Commission representatives respectively.

Mr. Venus Tawiah and Mr. Samuel Nkrumah were also confirmed as members of the GFA board.

According to a report by the Graphic, Mr. Mahadi, in his acceptance speech, said his main focus for his four-year tenure was to ensure that Ghanaian fencers would participate in the 2020 Olympic Games.

Meanwhile, the President of the Ghana Olympic Committee, Professor Francis Dodoo, and the Deputy Director General of the National Sports Authority, Mr. Saka Acquaye, who witnessed the election, assured the GFA of their support.

The election was supervised by the Electoral Commission of Ghana.
