Ghana suffer second loss at FIH Women's Hockey World League

ghana vs indiaThe Black Sticks of Ghana suffered their second loss at the FIH Women's Hockey World League (HWL) Round 2 after going down 3:1 to Thailand in a Pool A match at the Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium in India.

The Sticks went into the game on the back of a 13:0 thrashing at the hands of hosts India but they went down in the 13th minute with Thailand’s Chantree Yungyuen opening the scores after converting a penalty corner, before Kornkanok Sanpoung (32nd) doubled the lead in the third quarter.

But the Ghanaian ladies restored some hope, pulling a goal back in the very next minute when Georgina Sam (33rd) scored from a penalty stroke.

A late comeback appeared to be on the cards but the Asians rounded up their first victory of the competition when Yungyuen (60th) converted her second penalty corner of the day in the final minute of the match to restore Thailand's lead.

Thailand, who had lost to Poland 4-1 in their opening match, will now play hosts India on Tuesday while Ghana will face Poland.
