Profile Weightlifter Christian Amoah

Christ_1Weightlifter Christian Amoah will become the first male Ghanaian to compete in the Olympic Games when he debuts in the Rio 2016 Olympic Games next month.

Amoah was named as Ghana’s lone weightlifter to compete at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games by the Ghana Weightlifting Federation (GWF) following years of hard work and excellence in the national team.

Amoah was part of the national weightlifting team that  secured a quota place for the Olympic Games after being ranked 5th out of 10 countries in the men’s team classification at the 2016 African Championships in Yaoundé, Cameroon.

Having shot into national prominence after winning bronze at the 2014 African Youth Games in Gaborone, Botswana, he has since represented Ghana in the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Scotland and the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) Championship in USA.

He finished 6th in the 85kg category at the 2015 All African Games and was part of the national weightlifting team that placed 5th at the African Team Rio Olympic qualifier in Cameroon in 2016.
