Maidens maintain 100% record in qualifying for World Cup

Black MaidensThe national female U-20 team, the Black Maidens, maintained their 100% record in qualifying for the finals of the Fifa U-20 World Cup after achieving a 10:0 aggregate victory over Morocco to qualify for the World Cup.

The Black Maidens beat their North African counter parts 6:0 last Saturday, having beaten the Moroccans 4:0 in the first leg.

Mukarama Abdulai opened the scoring before Philicity Asuako added the second from the spot before recess. Barikisu Abdul-Rahman scored a brace in addition to goals from skipper Sandra Owusu-Ansah and Grace Acheampong.

The young Ghanaian ladies join West African rivals Nigeria and Cameroon as Africa’s representatives for the event which runs between September 30 and October 21 in Jordan.

Ghana will be playing in the global showpiece for the fifth consecutive time since the competition’s inception in 2008.

It will be recalled that in Azerbaijan in 2012, Ghana became the first team from Africa to go beyond the quarter-finals after beating Japan.

Although they lost to France, who went on to win the trophy, there was some consolation for the Africans as they took third place with a 1-0 victory against Germany in the play-off match.
