Rio 2016: Ghana held to 3:3 draw by Kenya

HockeyThe national women’s hockey, the Black Sticks, were held to a pulsating 3:3 drawn game by Kenya at the African Hockey Championships in South Africa on Friday.

Ghana’s top scorer Elizabeth Opoku opened the scores for her team but Kenya responded when Terea Nekesa Juma equalised before the Ghanaian side jumped into the lead again through Nafisatu Umaru from a penalty corner.

But Kenya made a strong come back, scoring two goals in two minutes through Tracy Karanja and Audrey Omaido. Theresa Mills restored parity for the Black Sticks with a late goal.

The unbeaten Black Sticks team now drops to second on the log behind South Africa in the round-robin competition with 13 points after five matches.

Ghana will play host nation South Africa in their last game on Sunday.
