Daniel Sam selected for Road to Rio workshop in Mauritius

Daniel SamGhana’s number 1 seed badminton player Daniel Sam and Emmanuel Donkor have been selected for a special “Road to Rio” programme in Mauritius.

Sam, who is on a Ghana Olympic Committee-Rio 2016 Scholarship, will benefit from the programme which consists of a technical training workshop from 8th to 10th June and an international badminton competition from 11th to 14th June, to aid preparations for Rio 2016.

Organised by Badminton Confederation of Africa (BCA), the workshop is meant to prepare the players for upcoming qualification competitions to the 2016 Rio Olympic Game in Nigeria, Morocco, Egypt and elsewhere. The two players have already left Accra to Mauritius to begin the course.

Meanwhile, Badminton Association of Ghana (BAG) have successfully ended the first part of their preparations for the 2015 All African Games.

According to officials of the BAG, the local badminton governing body have completed two weeks of their 'Special Weekend Camp' programme.

The first weekend camp took place from Thursday 7th May to Sunday 10th May, and from Thursday 14th May to Sunday 17th May.

The latter training camp was made up of 20 players consisting of both seniors and juniors, and under the direct supervision of coaches Jacob Wilson, Frank Shamo and Godwill Naimah. According to BAG, they will be resuming the special training regime after a short break.
