Buenos Aires 2018 has a new member in its team of multiple ambassadors. He is Javier Mascherano, one of the most recognized football players in the entire planet.
The footballer, who nowadays plays his fourth FIFA World Cup with the Argentine National Team, received the invitation from the Organizing Committee of Buenos Aires 2018 and will be one of the emblems of the largest multi-sports event in Argentine history.
"It is a great pride that I have been appointed as ambassador for the first Olympic Youth Games to be held in my country. From my side I will try to pass my experience and the value of sport for personal growth as an athletes" said Mascherano.
He is the fourth ambassador of Buenos Aires 2018 after the South African swimmer Chad Le Clos, multiple Olympic medalist; Luis Scola, the Argentinian Olympic basketball champion; and his compatriot Luciana Aymar, a world hockey legend, four times Olympic medalist.
With an extensive career, which includes being part of the recognized football clubs worldwide as River Plate, where he debuted in Argentinian football, Liverpool and his last one FC Barcelona, Mascherano is well known in the world for his leadership skills on and off the field.
With his National Team he played 143 games, becoming the player who most times wear the Argentinian T-Shirt in with the senior team.
In his fourth World Cup and with a career in all the youth teams of Argentina, Mascherano left his mark in the history of the Argentinian Olympic sport, being a key player of the national team.

With his victories in the Olympic Games of Athens 2004 and Beijing 2008, he equaled Juan Nelson – Poly Player, who won the Olympic gold with Argentina in Paris 1924 and Berlin 1936- as the only Argentinian athlete to be crowned twice with the gold medal.
"To the young people who are going to participate in Buenos Aires 2018 I suggest to live this experience to the fullest. It is very interesting to get involved with other athletes, to see other disciplines and interact with athletes from other countries. That's what the Olympic Games are about" added Mascherano.
The IOC appoints ambassadors for each edition of the Youth Olympic Games. The goal is to reach and motivate the youngest to adopt an active lifestyle through the practice of sports. Some of the previous ambassadors were sports legends like Usain Bolt, Michael Phelps, Yelena Isinbayeva, Michelle Wie and Yao Ming.
