During the tour the President congratulated OBS and the broadcast partners on the achievements so far; “Thank you for doing your job in such an excellent way. The response we are getting worldwide to your programmes is overwhelming. All together we embrace the digital age, and we have found formats that demonstrate that digital platforms can be complementary to linear television. The response we’ve received is that you have achieved this in an excellent way making it possible for us to reach out more than ever to the younger generation. This is one of the key messages coming from these Winter Games here in PyeongChang. There is, as always, innovation at the Olympic Games and we’ve been told by your colleagues that they are extremely happy with the OBS production and there has been another great step forward in Olympic sports broadcasting. You are not only communicating the sports excellence and the athletes’ achievements but also the Olympic spirit and what it means. You can see and experience it first-hand. The Games are beyond sports.”

Viewers across the world will have access to more coverage of the Olympic Winter Games PyeongChang 2018 than any previous Olympic Winter Games, including record numbers of digital broadcast hours. In addition, the amount of content on digital platforms is expected to be close to double that aired on TV.

To achieve this, more content than ever before – 5,000 hours – is being made available by Olympic Broadcasting Services (OBS). Over 5 billion people worldwide will have access to the PyeongChang 2018 TV coverage. In the Republic of Korea, TV coverage of PyeongChang 2018 will total more than twice that of Sochi 2014, while in the USA, NBC Universal will air more than 2,400 hours of coverage across TV and digital platforms – a US Winter Olympic record and almost the same amount of coverage as Vancouver 2010 and Sochi 2014 combined.
