Madam Elizabeth King Congratulates Female Bombers

Chairperson of the Women’s Commission of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC), Madam Elizabeth King has congratulated the two female boxers who represented Ghana at the Qlympic Games Boxing qualifiers in Dakar, Senegal.

Madam King who is also vice president of the Ghana Hockey Association was highly impressed by the quality performance of Dr. Sathoud and expressed that she could have been in administration, but Ornella is performing well in sports, which makes her a role model for the girl child and women.

“She didn’t let her education or womanhood prevent her from achieving her feat, I am really proud of her and wish her all the best” she stressed.

Dr. Sathoud missed the direct qualification when she lost 0-5 to Gramane Rady Adosinda of Mozambique  in the middleweight division at the semi final stage.

Faruiza Osman, a female recruit of the Ghana Armed Forces missed out in her first fight due to lack of exposure and experience and she thanks God and the Ghana Boxing Federation (GBF) for giving her the opportunity.

Ghana has 11 female boxers in the national team, but only two went for the 2020 Olympic qualifier for African nations in Senegal..

Some of the boxers who were left out were Barikisu Sunday, Ramatu Quaye, Sarah Botchway, Mariam Mohammed, RamanAbroh, Abigail Quartey, Liticia Amanua, TrudyManteaw and Sarah Apau.

Meanwhile, Yarkor Chavez Annan, the veteran female boxer who started it all, and was denied opportunity to box feels proud as the trail blazer, and appealed to the government to support and encourage girls who want to box. She also praised the Black Bombers as well as the coaches.
