Cape Coast University To Host 2020 African Junior Cadet Fencing Championship

The University of Cape Coast Sports Hall will be the action spot from February 24 to 29, 2020 as Ghana hosts the 2020 African Junior Cadet Fencing Championship in a historic city.

According to Mohammed Mahadi, this is the first time Ghana is hosting an international fencing competition and the purpose is to encourage more youth to get the interest in the sport.

He said all the best fencing nations and players on the continent will be featuring and hopes Ghanaian players will learn a lot, while the media also gets the opportunity to know about the sport very well.

He noted that Ghana can get lots of medals from fencing at international competitions if the nation invests in it and more people play the sport.

He thanked the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) president, Ben Nunoo Mensah for supporting the event and investing in the sport.

He also commended the world and continental bodies of fencing as well as the National Sports Authority (NSA) and the Ministry of Youth & Sports for aiding the Ghana Fencing Association.

Mohammed Mahadi said fencing is a special game that makes one alert and helps in concentrating and making good decisions.

He thanked the Hungary Ambassador in Ghana also for supporting the sport.
