Teshie Wins 2019 Homowo Beach Soccer Tournament

Teshie Beach Soccer Team has been crowned champions of the 2019 Homowo Beach Soccer Festival which was held at the Laboma Beach Resort in Accra on Sunday, October 6, 2019.

The Teshie Team beat their counterparts from Tema 4-3 at the finals of the 8 team tournament which was organised by Beach Sports Consult (BSC).

The annual competition which is programmes towards ensuring unity and peace among the Ga Adangbe people was successful, despite difficulties in getting sponsors.

According to BSC, the event is also aimed at cleaning the beaches and supporting tourism.


Among the guests and personalities who watched the tournament was the former Municipal Chief Executive of La Dadekotopon Hon Odoley Sowah and the president of Ghana Bodybuilding Federation Alhaji Yartey, who is also owner of Cheetah FC.

Organizing secretary of BSC, Nii Sackey Narh said they intends to spread their tentacles in the coming years to involve other events like beach volleyball and come fun activities.


“We are happy and will describe proceedings as a success. It’s been challenging but I think my colleagues helped in executing the job decently. In the subsequent years, we shall be spreading our wings to cover other sporting disciplines to make it grand”.

Former MCE of La Dadekotopon Hon Odoley Sowah expressed her delight and charged corporate agencies to come to the aide of beach soccer towards the development of arena to massively develop the sport which will encourage ladies to participate.


“It has been very exciting and I’m happy to be here. This isn’t my first time watching this game. I think they need sponsorship and I’m calling on all the organizations to help develop the game. When we are able to develop the beach we will be able to fully tap into the benefits this environment offers”.

National team striker Alexander Adjei who led his side Teshie to win the ultimate trophy was adjudged best player whiles his overall 7 goals helped him grab the top scorer accolade. In the same team, Gideon Adjei received the best goalkeeper award and Ada Assurance were rewarded the fair play team award.

The teams that took part were drawn from Ada, Tema, Nungua, Teshie, Osu, La, Ga Mashie and Dansoman.

The Die Hard Supporters Union provided entertainment at the beach.
