Ghana Black Queens Win Bronze At WAFU Zone B Tournament

The Black Queens of Ghana beat their Malian counterparts 9-8 on penalties after a scoreless game to grab the bronze medal at the West Africa Football Union Zone B Tournament in Abidjan, Cote d Ivoire.

Ghana, the defending champion lost to the eventual winners, Nigeria on penalties at the Semi Finals.

“We can still be proud of this amazing mix of new young talent and experience. The future really is an exciting one for us.” said coach of the team Mercy Tagoe Quarcoo.

The WAFU Zone B Women's Tournament Final was also exciting as Cote d'Ivoire and Nigeria drew 1-1 with goals fromAnge Koko Nguessan 45" and Uchenna Grace Kanu 90+4, before the Nigeria Supers Falcons Team C, won 6-5 on penalties.

Many football fans have commended Mercy Tagoe and her ladies for coming home with a medal.

In interviews with journalists in Abidjan, the Ghana gaffer praised her players for not losing within 90 minutes and said penalties can be any one’s game. She was content with the bronze and hoped to prepare her team better to win the All African Games.
