Abeku Gyekye Jackson set a new African Youth Games championship record in 100m butterfly with a time of 54.74seconds. A record previously held by a South African.

He qualified to the finals, but luck eluded Abeiku at the finals as he placed third and got the bronze in the 100m butterfly in a time of 55.5seconds.

He has also qualified for the finals of the 50m freestyle and 50m butterfly.

According to the suspended President of the Swimming Association, Theo Edzie, the young swimmer has done very well as this is the first time Ghana has placed well in a big international competition, and believes the future is very bright for swimming.

He noted that the welfare of the swimmers and exposure given them are the most important things.

He added that just a litte motivation from corporate Ghana can make them future champions.
