Top Taekwondo players to thrill at Open Champs

Terrence-Tetteh-Asare 1With less than four months to the 11th edition of the All African Games in Congo-Brazzaville, the nation’s top taekwondo players are set to participate in the fifth edition of the Mission Open Taekwondo Team Championship at the RLG Sports Hall of the Accra Sports stadium on Friday, 5th June.

Sponsored by Alhaji Blackie Bello Enterprise, the Ghana Taekwondo Federation will be using the competition to test the strength of its team for the All African Games as well as exposing younger taekwondo players to the game.

According to the Public Relations Officer of the GTF, Adnan Lamptey, top players including but not restricted to Rio 2016 Scholarship recipient Terrance Tetteh Asare and Ahmed Sama will be in action during the one-day competition in Accra.

Other taekwondo clubs from the ten regions of the country are expected to participate in the competition alongside other international players from the West African sub region.

The latest development comes after four national players represented the nation at the 2015 World Taekwondo Championships in Russia last month.

Currently, two taekwondo players, David Koney Adjetey and Terrance Tetteh Asare are on GOC sourced scholarships from the Olympic Solidarity to aid their preparations towards the 2016 Rio Olympic Games in Brazil.
