It was a moment of joy and a shade of melancholy on the part of Ghana’s newly signed on professional bantamweight boxer, Daniel Selassie Gorsh aka ‘The Emperor’ when he was to put pen on paper to start a new journey in boxing at the Bronx Boxing Gym at James Town on Wednesday.

His fans including his parents had come in their numbers to witness the ceremony, and when he took the mic to speak, he begun to cry, just because he was very happy to be lucky and also to rededicate himself to his long time coach and caretaker, Carl Lokko.

According to Gorsh, it is good he did not listen to people, and at the right time, he has landed a lucrative 3 year contract with USA based L & B Management Syndicate.

He told Yours Truly he decided to turn professional after he was not selected in the final squad for the 2020 Olympic Games Qualifier in Senegal.

Mr. Yoofi Boham described Gorsh as a rising promising star who must be supported to win a world title for Ghana. He advised him to work hard to overcome all the obstacles in boxing to be on top always, and also obey his trainers.

Mr. Nash Quarcoo hinted that they have been monitoring the budding talent for the past ten years, and feel time is due for him to turn professional and target a world title.

“I pray that he becomes a world champion in the next two years” he stressed.

Coach Carl Lokko thanked everyone who has played a role in the career of Dan Gorsh, and pleaded with him not to rush, but be patient and focused as the right time will come for him to become a champion.

Mr. William Gorsh, father of the boxer said boxing is in their family as his dad was a boxer and a soldier.

Members of the Ghana Boxing Supporters Union (GBSU) were there to offer entertainment and moral backing.
