GABF inches closer to congress

Sulemanu TettehUnder the supervision of the President of the Ghana Olympic Committee, Prof. Francis Dodoo, the Ghana Amateur Boxing Federation is inching closer to congress in the coming weeks.

A three-man vetting committee set up by GABF stakeholders last Friday scrutinised candidates for the upcoming election of officers of the local amateur boxing governing body.

The vetting committee- made up of national boxing coach Ofori Asare, ex-boxer Charles Quartey and Andrews K. Fenuku, a boxing Referee/Judge- was proposed, and elected by members of the Ghana Amateur Boxing Federation.

This followed two separate meetings between stakeholders of the GABF and the President of the Ghana Olympic Committee, Prof. Francis Dodo as part of efforts aimed at organizing a democratic and transparent election.

The meeting between the GABF and GOC became necessary after the world boxing governing body, AIBA prevented the GABF’s elective congress from taking place last year over government inference in the electoral process.

The GOC’s President Prof. Francis Dodoo was thereafter mandated by AIBA to supervise the process leading to the GABF’s upcoming congress.
